Memorial Stones, Lettering, Stone Carving, Design
Peter Reilly is a stonemason and carver of over 30 years experience. His work stretches right across the land with carvings as far apart as London in the South…. to the River Naver near Borgie in the far north of Scotland.
Over the years he has worked on many notable buildings including castles, churches, cathedrals and national monuments.
He Worked on The Scott Monument and The Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh in his younger years as well as The Mackenzie Building just off the Royal Mile.
Perhaps one of the more notable carving projects he has worked on include the substantial tracery west window of St Ninians Cathedral in Perth. In this project the West Window was in a state of near collapse following a storm. He was required to hand carve the entire internal section of the tracery window and reinstate it with new stone.
He has also carried out other “ tracery “ works to churches in Fife as well as carving the bell tower for one of these churches.
He has .. over the years worked on projects for The National Trust for Scotland. One of these at Culross Palace was shortlisted for a conservation award. It involved stone buttresses with carved tops which were designed by local school children.
Over and above his restoration and conservation work he has carried out a number of lettering jobs - including business signage in stone and bespoke gravestones.
Previously he was involved in all aspects of stone restoration including the construction phase of stone projects and all that entails.
He now intends to specialise on the lettering and carving side of the business and is therefore available to act as a supplier of bespoke hand carved items to pass on to others for construction if required. He can also take the design stage of hand carved gravestones and signage all the way through to the carving and completed installation stage.
He has carved everything from simple window surrounds through to cornice work through to high detail capitals on pillar tops.
In short …HE CARVES STONE !
